You Can't Predict a Hero - The New Book from Joseph J. Grano Jr.Joe will be speaking and signing books at the 5th avenue Barnes & Noble on Wednesday,

My close friend Joe Grano's father just wrote an amazing book. "You can't predict a Hero."
"Set against the backdrop of his remarkable life story, YOU CAN’T PREDICT A HERO: From War to Wall Street, Leading in Times of Crisis describes how Joseph Grano was able to triumph over both personal and professional challenges. Structured around six specific crises he has faced, Grano, with co-author Mark Levine, illustrates the most important leadership principles that he has learned throughout his career. These six tenets are: Problems require solutions. Be the eternal optimist. Reconcile yourself to the pursuit of self-interest. You can’t predict a hero. The truth is never wrong. Humanity is just as important as hierarchy.

Joseph Grano repeatedly shows how these six principles have served him well—whether faced with financial bullets or real ones. Written initially as a gift for Joseph Grano’s only son, YOU CAN’T PREDICT A HERO will inspire anyone looking to make sense of our rapidly changing world, and how to grow and even thrive through any challenge."

Joe will be speaking and signing books at the 5th avenue Barnes & Noble on Wednesday, Sept. 30, starting at 6:30pm. It's located between 45th and 46th. If you're around, feel free to stop by and pick up a copy to get signed. See the link for details.

Network Network Network

There is nothing more important in business than networking...if you don't know this, then you should! Go out and meet everyone you can...it will only help you in the long run.

Networking tip:Don't forget how important it is for you to physically move around and about when you're at a networking event. You can't work a room when you're sitting down! Unless, of course, you are at one of our High Speed Networking events!

I came across a great site called Networking for professionals. I just recently joined and they have several networking events in several cities. Let's see how this works out!

If You Buy Only One New Beauty Product This Fall, Make It This

Yes, I know that seems like a dramatic declaration, but really, who doesn’t love a gorgeous pink lipstick? It’s one of the most universally flattering makeup looks out there, and like its cousin red lipstick, it can glam up an outfit in seconds. Celebs are already in on this beauty secret: I’ve seen more fuchsia lip looks at fashion shows and awards shows this fall than ever before. So why the hot pink? Makeup artist Anetta Klemens tells me that the new lip trend is all about “brightening up and looking more alive”—a grin-and-bear-it response to this tough and wacky year. The trick to pulling off a sexy pink lipstick like Mischa Barton’s (who, by the way, is wearing Nars Lipstick in Funny Face semi-matte fuchsia in this snap) is to go easy on the eye makeup. Just stick to a neutral shadow and add a few coats of mascara. Another good trick? Try bronzer instead of blush. When you restrict the pink hue to your pretty smile, it’ll make your bold lip look stand out even more. If the straight-from-the-tube color seems too bright for you, try blotting it down gently to create more of a stain, then finish with clear lip gloss

Taylor Swift on The View

Taylor Swift has been quite the busy bee while in New York this week. On Tuesday, the 19-year-old singer took some time to make an appearance on The View.

Of course, Taylor addressed the situation that arose between her and Kayne West at the MTV VMAs on Sunday. “I think my overall thought process went something like: ‘Wow, I can’t believe I won… This is awesome… Don’t trip and fall…” She continued, “I’m gonna get to thank the fans, this is so cool… Oh, Kayne West is here!, Cool haircut… What are you doing there?’ And then, Ouch. And then, I guess I’m not gonna be able to thank the fans.’”

Shockingly, the country singer was able to do more then talk about Kayne West. In addition to the comments about what was going on in her mind as Kanye bombarded the stage, she was able to take a breather from the subject and perform her song "You Belong With Me".
Luckily, she was able to get through her performace without anyone getting up on stage to interrupt her.

Check out her performance on The View below.

XOXO,

Cristina

Tuesday Pick Me Up

One of my favorite quotes....still!

Carrie: Maybe our mistakes are what make our fate. Without them, what would shape our lives? Perhaps if we never veered off course, we wouldn't fall in love, or have babies, or be who we are. After all, seasons change. So do cities. People come into your life and people go. But it's comforting to know the ones you love are always in your heart. And if you're very lucky, a plane ride away.

Goodbye Roofdecks...Hello New Venues!!

With fall already approaching with a vengeance...it breaks my heart to bid farewell to my favorite summer spots. Frying pan, your beer buckets treated us well! However, now we get to try all the new indoor spots without feeling guilty about missing out on the beautiful weather!

Some new venues worth check out: (I will try to visit as many this week and give full feedback)

Danny Clark's Monday Nights Kickoff With Bang

New York Giants linebacker Danny Clark is not only one of the most well-respected guys in the locker room, he knows how to throw a party...for a good cause.

Danny hosted the first of his Danny Clark's Monday Nights events last night, premiering a season-long series where he will host his Giants teammates and the fans who love them for a night filled with hot wings, beers and Monday Night Football in support of his charity, The Danny Clark Foundation. The DCF provides support to underprivileged children through a variety of initiatives and Clark is very hands-on with the cause.

Clark hosted the gamewatch party at The Ainsworth, a just-opened-5-minutes-ago sports bar on West 26th Street, where the entire season's events will be held. The gastropub is literally swimming in HD televisions all playing "the game" while one or two might show an event like the Federer-Del Potro U.S. Open final, if you're lucky.

Fellow New York Giant Ramses Barden was in awe of the "million televisions so you don't have to miss anything" while you make your way to the bar for Coors Light and Svedka cocktails or to the overflowing trays of spicy wings and turkey sliders.

Last night several of Clark's teammates stopped by to support Danny and his cause, including rookie Ramses Barden, Steve Smith, Bryan Kehl and Derek Hagan. Green Bay Packer Sean Jones also hung out with his fellow NFLers at one of the Players Lounge tables.

"Danny's one of those smarter guys you really respect. He's been through a lot and the younger guys can really learn from him," Steve Smith told AGAIG on why he was there supporting his fellow Big Blue.

Project Runway's Kevin Christiana also hung out and enjoyed the football festivities.

Meanwhile, Clark, 32, was the consummate host, making his way around the room to make sure he chatted with all of the fans and other guests supporting his event and his foundation. His Giants teammates were gracious as well, hanging out amongst the crowd and taking the time to chat and take pictures with fans.

Last night's TWO football games and set from DJ Berrie were a bonus, but if the inaugural evening was any indication, the entire series should be a blast for anyone looking for a new scene to enjoy some Monday Night Football.

However, even with the obvious gridiron element, I had to wonder why Danny chose the oft-laid back Monday slot for his parties. In fitting nature to his wise veteran nature, Clark responded, "Tuesdays are the Giants only day off."

The Ex-Banker Living on Alcohol

Okay, so I currently came across an article in NY MAG about a 24 year old Ex-Banker who is living her life in NYC. I came to the realization that this girl was living a strangely similar life to me and my group of girlfriends (minus the fact she is REALLY in need of morals!)

One part said " 11 p.m.: Head to Dorrian's, where I am immediately greeted by everyone from my New England boarding school fist-pumping to Glory Days. Bliss. I chat with a cute guy and we drunkenly make dinner plans for the next day. He’s in my phone as clubdshottall. "

Who is this girl? I would love to go out and grab drink with her (since we probably have done so 101 times) but, like all my friends do (seems like she desperately needs good friends) I would make sure she gets home ok...and alone!
