Look who appeared in the Vineyard Vines Fall '09 Catalog

With new fall fashion quickly approaching...I consulted my Vineyard Vines Catalog and came across some familiar faces...

Fashion's Night Out

September is quickly approaching, which means that Fashion Week, held in New York City's Bryant Park is just around the corner. While Fashion Week is always a big deal for New York, it is especially important this year.

There's no hiding from the slumping economy. The recession is here, it's been here and it looks like it will be sticking around for a while longer. New York City is not immune to the effects of this recession. That is why Fashion Week has teamed up with "Fashion's Night Out" , a global initiave to "promote retail, restore consumer confidence, and celebrate fashion,". U.S. Vogue and it's international editions have set up fashion extravaganzas in their respective fashion capitals. Obviously, the United State's extravanaza would take place in New York City and what better time to hold a fashion event then during New York City's Fashion Week!

Second only to Finance, Fashion is the next largest sector of industry in New York City. According to
FashionsNightOut.com , the fashion industry is led by 800 fashion companies, employing 175,000 people and generating 10 billion in total wages. Not only does this mean fashion brings alot of revenue into the city, but it also employees a large group of people so this event is very important to the people on New York.

On September 10th, retailers all across the five boroughs will be coming together for Fashion's Night Out. The event will keep its doors open late and will be open to everybody. Unlike the rest of Fashion Week events, a ticket to the event is not needed.

Watch some of your favorite designers and celebrities endorse this great cause below.

Walk 4 Love

The first annual Walk 4Love benefitting Pediatric Cancer Research will be September 19th, 2009. This walk is in honor of my cousin Jana and is for an AMAZING cause. Please click here to sign up or for more information. If you are interested in sponsoring, please click here.

Jana's Story:

It was in mid May of 2003, the day of junior prom. While most girls were worrying about make-up and their prom dress, I had larger issues at hand. I received a phone call that no sixteen year old should receive; I had cancer. My summer was spent in and out of the hospital, getting chemotherapy and radiation treatments for soft tissue sarcoma. I had the love and support from family, friends, and my boyfriend Sean, so I was able to focus and stay positive. It may sound odd, but I was lucky to be 16 and 5'7" when I received the intense treatments. Children who have not gone through their growth spurt often never reach their full height. I became more educated about the effects of treatments during my second battle with cancer. This time around I was diagnosed with AML, a type of leukemia that was the result of my treatments from 5 years prior. I am 21 years old and tiredof seeing so many suffer from cancer, especially children. More research and funding needs to be placed on pediatric cancer. So that every child can be a child.

Since then Jana has passed on and her family and friends have become focused on Jana’s dream. The Jana Piccola Walk 4Love embraces Jana’s dream and is fully focused on raising funds towards pediatric cancer research.

Celebs try to book their flights with Justin Ross Lee

It has been some time since we first came across the facebook profile of Justin Ross Lee. We posed the question " who is he" and reported the first in person interview. We had taken the summer off all that is Justin and let other bloggers meet our friend. He has been featured on Guest of a Guest and had an article written about him and Ashley Olsen on Kiss & Type
However, we still chat from time to time....and thought that we should show our readers that JRL isn't just about making you feel inferior.
Star Magazine covered JRL's encounter with Brad Pitt....which you can find here. What you don't know is that Justin was paid for the article. What did he do with the money? Well, he didn't purchase bottles in the Hamptons or order another expensive suite from Drew. He donated the money to Brad Pitts charity " The Make it Right" Foundation, to help rebuild New Orleans.
Besides his charitable heart....he is also branching out and dating "non-jews" for the summer. Check out his album Shiksa Summer- I don't know how all these girls fall for this...but it is pretty entertaining.

Flightcaster- never wait again

There is nothing worse than sitting in the airport for several hours because of a delayed flight. This new program called FlightCaster will tell you if your flight is delayed or not. FlightCaster predicts flight delays. They use an advanced algorithm that scours data on every domestic flight for the past 10-years and matches it to real-time conditions. They help you evaluate alternative options and help connect you to the right personto make the change.

Random Thought

Every time I have to spell a word over the phone using 'as in' examples, I will undoubtedly draw a blank and sound like a complete idiot. Today I had to spell my boss's last name to an attorney and said "Yes that's G as in...(10 second lapse)..ummm...Goonies"

When you speak to me, please speakeasy

If it seems like I have been off the radar lately, its because....well, I have been. Frequenting the Hamptons only a few times this summer, and doing a bit of traveling -isn't the reason why. I know during the summer, NYC seems to become a desolate place. However, it seems that the trend of nightlife has changed. It's no longer getting past the impossible door, but finding it.
In June, I had gone on a date, and near the end of the night he brought me to an apartment. I found this to be a bit presumptuous, but when he approached the door and knocked I became intrigued.
A lean and long fellow peaked his head through the door and invited us in.
Inside was a fabulous bar with the most AMAZING cocktails.
I am not listing this speakeasy because it currently is one of my favorites, but this lounge left me craving more.
The search began,
and I began dressing in darker colors and tucking my Lilly Pulitzer dresses away.I ventured to the popular speakeasy "La Esquina" with a group of friends. After some convincing, we were led down through the employees only door, down a few flights of stairs, and rubbed elbows with the busy mexican kitchen staff. Once inside, we sipped on tequila that cost $40 a shot, and met men dexterous in name dropping.
We ended the night at Southside,
which is NOT a speakeasy but since its under the former
diner/restaurant Martignetti's we can pretend that it is.
I have made a small list of my favorite speakeasy's of this summer- but remember, a good speakeasy is only as good as its guests.

I don't understand the purpose of the line, "I don't need to drink to have fun." Great, no one does. But why start a fire with flint and sticks when they've invented the lighter?

Random Thought

Every weekday morning we will post a random thought....please feel free to comment.

I think everyone has a movie that they love so much, it actually becomes stressful to watch it with other people. I'll end up wasting 90 minutes shiftily glancing around to confirm that everyone's laughing at the right parts, then making sure I laugh just a little bit harder (and a millisecond earlier) to prove that I'm still the only one who really, really gets it.

I'm with Troy

Greenhouse’s queue was unbelievable, and this time, there was no overhead scaffolding, so the line had a different feel to it. The entire corner of Varick and Vandam was drenched with human beings, all of them hot and sweaty.

The Adrian Grenier event had Doorman Sammy rejecting guys in general, and the short and unattractive females. On typical nights, he will excuse a few here or there, but not on this Monday night. I didn’t even see Mr Grenier, as I was occupied outside for most of the night begging for close guy friends to be let in.

Walked inside and it was a hot mess. Sweltering sweat was in the air. Had the feeling of a zoo. Monkeys swinging from tree vines and the temperature of the tropics, greater than 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Crowd was a mixture of the Jersey crew, the hipster crew, and one or two models here or there. Oh, and of the course the suited bankers who had to make an appearance to see the star of their favourite guy show “Entourage.”

Don’t let me forget to mention that Akon’s brother and manager were @ Greenhouse. I saw them walk in, and I would have never noticed who they were until I heard a short Indian man state their titles of importance to the general public outside. Sammy (doorman) pushed others aside for them like Moses with regards to the red sea. I gave Akon’s brother my card and told him to hit me up for any future NYC parties, let’s hope he does.

Left for Butter, and only realized this was a bad decision upon arrival. No line @ door and no energy inside the room. Tables were empty ( no couch potato dancers on top of them). Asked the waitresses if any celebs showed, and their response simply was “no” so Greenhouse wins first prize for Best Monday party this Monday just, let us see how they do next week. No Binn at the door either, however Genz was there chilling out with one of the drivers that frequents Butter/1Oak (in a Mercedes Benz). Actually met up with a great friend, celebrity publicist Raul Barrera. Left with him for Mr. West.

Mr West’s crowd on Mondays isn’t always the best, but they rack in celebs. To some, football and basketball players may not be of interest to see @ a nightclub, but for others, this is their passion, and these guys are usually at Mr West, courtesy of the promotional director. His name is Ahmad Tahoun. Very cool guy and he throws good parties. I will say the same for M2 on Thursdays, as he also runs this party in collaboration with Jed Stiller.

Two names to some of you that may not be that popular but they should be because they bring the heat. Some football players for the NY Giants were @ Mr West last night, I wish I watched all these games and sports so that I can recall or remember his name. I just knew he played for the Giants because some obnoxious girls were saying they met one of the players and he told them they were the most gorgeous girls he ever saw etc and he gave them champagne of course.

Word on the street is that Kim Kardashian will be in town on Wednesday lets see if I end up being correct :) as I was about her being @ 55th and broadway for lunch with Reggie Bush!

Scott Herman: Real life after The Real World

Some of you may remember my post back in January about Scott Herman, MTV's The Real World Brooklyn's sexiest cast member who had all the girls, boys and blogs talking. For almost all reality TV stars, popularity phases out as quickly as it comes . Of course, there are those cast members whose crazy antics and spin off shows get them remembered (think I Love New York) but very few are respected outside those 15 minutes of fame. The same cannot be said for Scott Herman, a cast member of The Real World - Brooklyn, most commonly known as "the good looking one with the abs". The nice guy with the frat boy style shocked and impressed viewers during the airing of the show when he turned out to be nothing like his sterotypical image and has continued to impress his fans since the shows conclusion. You may have seen Scott gracing the pages of Men's Health Magazine or come across him once or twice in Cosmopolitan Magazine but Scott is more then a model-slash-actor with chiseled abs and a pretty face. Scott has had his eye on success far before he was casted on The Real World-Brooklyn and has used his new found fame to further his career and educate the public on fitness. I was able to pencil myself into Scott's busy schedule to ask him about his Real World experience and find out what he has been up to since the conclusion of the show.

1. What made you to want to join the cast of The Real World? Was it hard living life in front of a camera?
a. I decided to join the cast of the Real World Brooklyn because I wanted to be the first cast member in a long time to go on the show who had ambition to accomplish more in life at 24 other than to just eat, drink, and have sex. However, I was surprised to see when I got there that I was not the only one. As far as living on camera; it was a very easy adjustment for me. It isn’t like you went there not expecting them. I feel like everyone else in the house was also already mentally prepared for the cameras when they got there.

2. How has life changed for you since appearing on The Real World Brooklyn last season?

a. Since the show I have made drastic changes. The biggest being not working in a gym anymore. I worked in a gym for 10 years and decided it was time to move onto bigger things. I felt I had a calling in the entertainment industry and I wasn’t going to be happy until I tackled the industry head on.

3. Are you easily recognized and approached by people when you’re out with friends or running daily errands? How has it affected your personal life?
a. Not so much in NYC, but when I am back in my hometown of Salem, NH, my friends like to play a game and see who can guess the number of times people come up to me. I enjoy it though, I feel like I was a great role model on the show and I want to continue to give my fans that same impression.

4. How have your relationships with your fellow cast members changed over the past year?

a. My relationships have all improved. I would like to say that I was one of the few who got along with everyone while filming and when we came back for the reunion. But, usually when my castmates visit the city they stay at my place with Baya and Devyn so we have all been able to grow closer while acting more like ourselves with no cameras around. I also hang out with Chet all the time because he lives in the city as well. Chet and I have become even closer since the show.

5. What have you been up too since the conclusion of the show?

a. Since the show I have been modeling, acting, and producing. I did an awesome photoshoot with Undergear, (Back by popular demand! SCOTT HERMAN FOR UNDERGEAR) and have been featured in Cosmopolitan Magazine a few times more as well. I have started a Talent Management Company with my manager Kyber Bernstein, I am up for a lead role in a new HBO show, and have been putting together my first Reality TV pilot that I am producing. Keeping busy has never been hard for me. Lately, I have been working really hard to push my youtube channel. My youtube channel has really given me the freedom I needed to help spread the word about health and fitness and to bring more attention to my fitness site, http://www.scotthermanfitness.com/.

6. Tells us about the projects you have going on?

My fitness website was something I had been working on before I knew I even made it on the show. It has come a long way since I first started it and I am very happy with it’s progress. I do plan on releasing fitness DVD’s in the near future. My first one.. the Scott Herman ABS workout!

The purpose of my youtube channel is to bring health and fitness to the world in an easy to understand way. My goal is to build a big enough channel with enough support that I will have the time and freedom to spend a lot of time in the gym producing easy and fun instructional videos to help anyone who wants to learn about fitness.

Modeling has been a bit slow. My main goal is to land a gig with Calvin Klein. In the mean time I did do a great shoot with Undergear: The video was posted on youtube and hit 33,000 hits in 3 days before youtube took the video down for being a bit toooo racy. But that’s ok, the Undergear catalog will be out the end of August, be sure to check it out!-Magazine shootsCheck out Cosmopolitan September page 135.

6. What everyone wants to know? How do you keep up that body? What is your workout routine like?

a. My routine is vigorous. I go to the gym with one mission and it is to leave in pain. I lift as heavy as I can for each muscle group and dedicate 4 days a week to abs for about 30minutes at a time.

7. Advice for the girls and guys who want to get back into the gym but can't seem to find the motivation. What can help them reach their fitness goals?

a. Motivation is easy. Set a goal for yourself and really focus on wanting to accomplish that goal. Be proud to look in the mirror as you see results. Or, maybe you just need more knowledge because you are clueless in the gym.. that is where my youtube channel and fitness site comes in.

8. What have you learned about yourself that you didn't realize before appearing on the Real World?

a. I learned that it is ok to be a nice guy and to always keep the same morals and values. But when you are in this industry, keep up an extra guard for protection.

9. You've graced the pages of magazines, launched your own fitness site and youtube channel...What's next? Any big plans you see yourself getting involved in in the future?

a. I have a couple acting opportunities coming up. However my next goal? I want to be Captain America. See Scott Herman as Captain America- Part 1

XOXO,

Cristina
