Guest of a guest holiday party

Tuesday, December 15, 2009

My wishes were granted, Red Velvet Lounge opens this week in New York City

One night in college I was out to dinner with a few friends. We decided to get dessert and a cocktail before heading out. Being the sweet tooth that I am, I thought to myself...There is nothing better than cake and cocktails!
Apparently I am not the only one that thought this. This Thursday is the soft opening of RED VELVET!
Jason Lawrence and Cole Bernard (of The Eldridge) have taken the two most popular things in New York City (cupcakes and fancy drinks) and are opening Red Velvet on Rivington Street. Mixologist Charlotte Voisey has created booze infused cupakes with the help of Cupcakes by Melissa. I am SO excited to try the Jameson spiked Espresso cupcake with an Espresso Martini. All they need to do now is hire an amazing DJ (check out Southside for employees hint hint), and then this venue will definitely be number one in the hearts of every girl in NYC!

5 things that put you in the holiday spirit!

Here are my top 5 things to put you in the HOLIDAY SPIRIT!

1) GO SKATING UNDER THE TREE!
Yes, it is a bit cliche. So is opening gifts, and you still do that! There is something about being under a giant tree, ice skating, and New York City that is all so magical!

2) ELF YOURSELF!
It makes you laugh to see yourself as an elf...and it makes your friends laugh! So do it! Watch mine here

3) Get a holiday drink at Starbucks

Nothing makes you feel more Jolly in the office than a Peppermint Mocha Latte...and if you are really in the holiday spirit...buy one for the person behind you!

4) Go to Santacon

3,000+ people dressed like Santa...enough said!

5) DONATE

Nothing puts you in a better holiday spirit than helping others less fortunate. You can donate your time at a food shelter, donate blood, donate toys, or donate to The world Race (hint hint)...The point is...This is the season to give!

MIDNIGHT SPIN
Midnight Spin are a five-piece from Williamsburg, Brooklyn who bring high-energy rock music to the NYC scene as if they were a gang of drunk raccoons hopped up on goofballs. The band is fresh off their Official CMJ Showcase performance and have been touring around the country promoting their debut EP, Through the Mojo Wire, produced by Nic Hard (The Bravery). This month finds Midnight Spin shooting their first ever music video, for their debut single “In the Air (Revival)”. Aided by producers from MTV who are seeking a high-profile exposure for the video and the band, Midnight Spin are an exciting new mark of what it means to be a true rock band in the 21st century.

THE OTIS FUNKMEYER BAND
The Otis Funkmeyer Band Featuring Leslie Rochelle is a nine-piece deep funk ensemble from New York City. Otis’s sound is heavily influenced by the funk and raw soul from the sixties and seventies, and seeks to retain the qualities found in that music: the visceral emotion of the vocalists, the dance-ability and musicianship of the grooves, and the raw, live feel of the engineering. Rather than simply copying the artists they emulate, Otis Funkmeyer pushes the boundaries of the genre with original compositions that are personal and unique. Through soul-bearing lyrical expression and experimentation in sound, The Otis Funkmeyer Band picks up right where vintage raw funk left off.
