I'm with Troy

Thursday night started out as a bit of a let down at M2 for the NBA party.  I foolishly went early, LOL, as I assumed it would be like the NFL party, but it wasn’t. The doors didn’t open till 11pm and there was no media.  My group of girls was the first to go in and I sat them down in the middle VIP section where they were given wristbands.  It was sort of a let down to my crowd as I hyped up the event thinking it would be like the NFL draft where basically no one could have gotten in. Take that with some salt, though, because it ultimately was an amazing party and there were some basketball players.  Rafer Alston and Lamar Odom did not show up, however, as was promised by the management because apparently most of the players went to Jay-Z’s night club called the 40/40 Club.  That scene is a much more ghetto vibe than even M2 is on a Thursday, but seeing that it is owned by someone much more prominent in the media, I am sure it was an easy pull for Jay-Z to steal all the NBA players to his nightclub.

Rumor has it that Jay-Z and Beyonce were actually at 1Oak, one of Jay-Z’s favorite night clubs and one of mine as well, as I headed there right after M2. Celebs that did go to the M2 Thursday party were Jadakiss and Busta Rhymes, but these guys are no new names to the nightlife scene.  They are consistently out having a good time. Both were spotted the skybox of M2 Thursday night and word is that Jadakiss was wasted.

Well we all know of MJ’s death…such terrible news. When I was partying at 1Oak, DJs Reach and Cassidy were there behind the DJ booth paying tribute to him.  They played his music all night and then for a moment around 3am, they turned off the music and asked everyone to raise their lighters and their cell phones in the air.  All jokes aside, I saw girls crying and it was touching actually, LOL.  I have not cried since my father beat me maybe when I was 9 years old for stealing a Lego from a friend LOL, and while I managed not to that night, I did get some goosebumps.  Very touching moment.  Also, interesting to note, the Wayans brothers cannot seem to get enough of 1Oak.  They were there two nights in a row.  On a mission for women I am sure LOL.

Friday night Pink Elephant was slow.  It has been like that a lot recently, though I did end up meeting a lot of southern girls randomly that night.  Pink Elephant sometimes does attract the pretty blonde type of crew on weekends I guess. Wednesday tends to be more of an urban night and Thursday I guess is their Euro night. Funny story is at the end of the night I opted to join some Trinidadian friends at club Home.  As crazy of a decision as it sounds, I had a blast. Ghetto party, yes, but sometimes going to places like this you realize how snobby others are. Comparing there to 1Oak, the party vibe was a lot more fun and not to mention it had a much better DJ. I’ve always wonder what makes one DJ better than another and I can’t come to a reasonable answer. Of course you have to test their scratching skills and how well they can morph one song into the other, but just as it is with every occupation, I think it’s more important who you know, LOL. Such is life, all about who you know. Anyways the night ended at club Home, ghettoville.

Sat night I decided to dress up nicely and wear a button down for once. Someone told me that people judge you by how you dress earlier in the day and I felt like trying it out. It felt nice to be complemented on how you dress.  As always, I was downstairs at the main room corner table in front the DJ booth. Tables 23 and 24, two tables put together. The DJ at Marquee on Saturday night spins sort of Hip Hop till 2am, then plays trance or house music till 4am when they close. In the upstairs section of Marquee they play Hip Hop on both Friday and Saturday, so they put the better promoters upstairs like Mike St Pierre Ryan Smith and Joe Clark and Matt Assante.

Nightlife is Preserved

So, what happens when you mix all components of nightlife and put them into one room?
You get the
Last night was an amazing time. It was like an office holiday party for all in nightlife. Club owners mingled with bloggers, waitresses danced with doormen, and bottle hosts shmoozed with promoters.

Chloe Sevigny hosted the event, rocking a “Free The Beatrice” t-shirt. Supporting her brother Paul Sevigny’s West Village nightclub, Beatrice Inn.
Steve Lewis, father of nightlife and Blackbook contributor greeted guests with a welcoming smile... referring to each person as his "best friend."
Upon entrance, cameras flashed while many of the City's scene-makers posed in front of the step and repeat. I quickly found my way to the bar to ask "what's included in the open bar tonight?" The response was what many 23 year olds dream to hear..."Whatever you can drink till 1 am." Once these words were uttered I realized that this event was going to go from a Hott party to a Hott Mess!
The music was obviously amazing and it is no surprise that nearly everyone was dancing. I soon realized that most of the clubs and lounges had their own tables with complimentary bottles. I sipped a grey goose and cranberry with some of the boys at "The Eldridge Table" and then made my way towards the stage. I decided to make myself (and my girlfriends) comfortable at the "Greenhouse" table.
My friend Scott, who is one of the owners of Greenhouse, introduced me to several of the industry's "people." I then ran into fellow Joonbug guest contributer Karim Amatulla, and we laughed about how funny industry people can be together in the same room. It's interesting because it was a bit like a competition inside... Who's venue is better, and who had more leggy models drinking from their (free) bottles.
I would say that overall, the event was a success. Is the economy affecting the nightlife industry... maybe, do the scene-makers still know how to party...definitely!

The NYC Nightlife Preservation Community

As we all know, our current economy is in a major slump, and job opportunities are at an extreme deficit. So how do we get out of it? We party our way to economic justice! On June 22nd, an organization called the Nightlife Preservation Community (NPC) is hosting a huge launching event over at M2 (formerly known as Mansion). The purpose of this reception is to raise awareness about the challenges that not only affect the nightlife industry, but also the restaurant and bar industry and the many individuals in small businesses that rely on the vibrant night time economy that NYC has to offer. Come meet the owners, operators, employees, entertainers and businesses who help in making NYC nightlife the most prosperous in the country. This event is sure to be a blast, hosted byChloe Sevigny, and Natasha Lyonne, and including famous DJs such as QtipMarky RamoneJunior VasquezDanny Krivit, to name a few. Our own Jon Gabel, and Joonbug Productions are helping organize such a launching along with Track Entertainment/ClubPlanet, by gathering lists of over 700,000 Manhattanites who are frequent nightclub attendees.

The NPC itself is supported by and answers to the New York Nightlife Association (NYNA) and the New York State Restaurant Association (NYSRA). Chloe Sevigny, co-chair of the organization and co-host of the event explains that, “Nightlife attracts more patrons than the Yankees, Mets, Rangers, Knicks, Devils, Islanders, Broadway shows, and the opera put together. It [also] generates twice as much revenue as the film industry.” Nightlife provides jobs, produces tax revenue, and attracts plethoric amounts of tourists, but it often finds itself in mindless conflict with groups whose agenda seems to be to sanitize New York—and disregard the immense profitability that the nightlife industry provides. The city needs to recognize and cooperate with this revenue potential, instead of fighting it by shutting down bars quicker than a Red Sox fan getting chased out of a Yankees game.

So, come help preserve NYC nightlife and assist in changing Manhattan’s official nickname from the “Big Apple” to “The City that Never Sleeps!”

When? Mon. June 22, 2009
          9pm-1am Guest List Only
          1am-4pm Open to the Public

Where? M2

EXCLUSIVE: Hilary Rhoda Queen of New York Sports Scene

Fashion world darling Hilary Rhoda appears to have taken on a new title: queen of New York's most eligible athletes. Rhoda, who is rumored to have been dating New York Jets heartthrob quarterback Mark Sanchez ever since they met on set at a GQ photo shoot, was spotted saddling up to the bar with New York Rangers power player Sean Avery at Murray Hill playground Brother Jimmy's last night.

Avery and Rhoda recently covered the Bonnaroo music festival in Manchester, TN together for FUSE TV.

Rhoda was hanging out with a group of friends in a red and white maxi dress before Avery walked in to meet her and the whole group started knocking back some shots together.

Brother Jimmy’s is known amongst the Murray Hill set for its raucous Sunday evening bacchanalia that extends the weekend one more night and leaves partyers with "Long weekend?" comments and sideways glances from co-workers on Monday mornings.

Sanchez was nowhere in sight last night but, in an interesting twist, another New York athlete was in attendance: New York Red Bull goaltender Daniel Cepero.

Jezebel gets its collar popped

Yesterday,
Jezebel wrote a very entertaining article on Vineyard Vines and their catalog.
The article opened with "Why one of us received the Vineyard Vines catalog is a mystery. But it's no secret that inside, we found the WASPiest crap we'd ever seen."

Here are a few entertaining excerpts:

"Having tiny designs on your tie is pretty WASPy, but when the pattern is made up of signs from Martha's Vineyard, well, you win. Or lose. Depending.
WASP Rating: 9 out of 10"
"Nothing says "dressed down" like an $85 tattersall button-down collar shirt with a whale embroidered on it. In "cucumber," "bimini blue," "palm beach" and crisp KKK white. Kidding about the last one.
WASP Rating: 9 out of 10"

I guess that Vineyard Vines and Lilly Pulitzer isn't for everyone. I unfortunately learned the hard way, while wearing a Lilly baby blue dress on a Saturday night in the Lower East Side....

Rainy day pick me up

Pink Jacket left on the fence in Westhampton

So on this rainy afternoon, I put on my favorite pink rain jacket. While doing so, I quickly laughed and reflected on my life. Many of my friends have been in relationships where the guy tried to "change them." I think at this age, it is important to find out who you are and who you want to be. Enjoy the mistakes in life, jump in puddles and ruin your Louboutins, and take a walk of shame stroll through the LES. Then, maybe on a rainy day...the right person will come along that thinks you are perfect...flaws and all.

First Hand Report on Southampton's Harbor Club

So when I heard about the opening of Harbor Club, I was a bit hesitant. Being from Huntington, Long Island, I spent my youth working as a bridal attendant at the Harbor Club catering hall. While trekking out to the Hamptons for the opening, fears of missing cakes and drunk bridesmaids ran through my head. My friend Peter Smith (bartender at Harbor Club) assured me it would be a great time. Harbor Club is owned by David Marino, Ben Greiff and James Cruickshank. As much as I am NOT a hipster, I figured it was in the Hamptons so how "downtown" could it be.

The place is very cool to say the least. Nick Cohen spun great music for dancing and the wooden furniture made it very vaction-esque. I think any venue that allows you to have a drink in one hand and a cigarette in another is always on my Top 10 list. I overheard that during the summer there will be fun BBQ's and day drinking. This will definitely be a cool place to have a Bloody Mary and listen to the next "it" band. Looks like us city folk may have to wake up a bit earlier to catch the Jitney.

Another baby for Brad and Angelina?

Will the stork be dropping off another baby to join the Brangelina clan?
According to Brad Pitt, it is highly possible.
At the afterparty of the Cannes Film Festival premiere of his movie Inglourious Basterds, Pitt was surrounded by fans but his focus was on his family.
"I have the most beautiful family," Brad told Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper. "What else can a guy want?"
Another baby? Maybe...
Brad went on to the paper then he and Angelina Jolie are "lucky...to have children from around the world,"
"They're all fantastic, and we'd love another. Who knows, maybe we'll have one in London."
Whether it's all talk or if the Jolie-Pitts are seriously looking to add another child to their clan, it appears that Brad Pitt really is a family man.

Kristin Cavallari dishes up drama on The Hills

Laguna Beach's Kristin Cavallari has signed on to take over the spotlight of Laguna Beach co-star, Lauren Conrad during season 6 of The Hills.
According to
Life & Style Weekly, Cavallari will be making $63,000 per episode. That's just $2,000 less per episode than Lauren Conrad was making. Why is she worth MTV's serious cash? She's all about the drama.
“She’s so fun and crazy. Kristin’s not afraid to put anything on camera. She’s not going to hold anything back," said costar Heidi Montag.
A Hills production insider said “They needed someone new and fresh, who also came with a buzz and a name that was recognizable. Kristin was the obvious choice. She wanted money. You don’t have to pay the other girls that kind of money, but for Kristin you had to pay up.”
How does the cast feel about Kristin's return to MTV?
According to Stephanie Pratt, "We are not really fans of her. She doesn't want to be friends with us. She wants to bring her acting skills to The Hills and yell at all of us. I have no idea why she doesn't like us. I actually just had lunch with Lo (Bosworth) the other day, and we were just talking about how crazy this is."
It looks as though MTV is already getting their money's worth in the drama department. While attending a fashion show in St.Maarten this week, Cavallari was tossing glitter at the models on the runway. The models, which included Victoria's Secret model Selita Ebanks were not happy with the reality stars desperate cry for media attention.
An eyewitness at the event said "After the show, four of the models had to be restrained from trying to start a fight with her while she was in the DJ booth… One of them grabbed her by the hair before the fracas got broken up".
With this kind of drama, Season 6 of The Hills just may be their best season yet!

National Doughnut Day!

It's national doughnut day, and we all know what that means- FREE Doughnuts! (Well, almost...)
The national holiday was created back in 1917 by the Salvation Army to boost the morale and support the Troops fighting in WWI and has continued to be celebrated every first Friday in June since then. The first "free doughnuts" were said to be fried in oil inside an American solider's helmet. Let's hope today's free doughnuts will be a little more sanitary then that!
You may be asking yourself "Where can I get my free doughnut?". Well, both Dunkin Donuts and Krispy Kreme are commerating the holiday by giving away free doughnuts.

The catch? Dunkin Donuts makes you buy a drink before tossing you your freebee, but Krispy Kreme is giving them out with no strings attached. It's Friday, you have been working hard all week (hopefully) and you deserve to spoil yourself with a little pre-weekend treat, especially when it's free!

The new Iphone

A Pink Elephant Phase

Its a terrible thing when a promoter is not able to use his cell phone on a night when promoting. Basically the cell phone is like the sun, and the promoter is like superman..its where promoters get their energy source from. Last night my phone wasnt able to receive any messages, it was horrendous! Gladly my friends love me enough, they still said my name at the door and gave me credit. I found some of them inside, and walked them to my table, and gave them drinks. However, all in all it was not a good night for Troy.

I actually headed over to Kiss and Fly to see what it was like. Honestly, I was in shock. Pink Elephant was struggling to fill half the room, yet Kiss and Fly was way too packed! I felt as though I walked into a jungle. Girls were swinging from the pillars... and the way the room is set up, I feel as though people were hanging from the ceiling almost. At least this is a better sign than Pink being empty. However, I spoke to some Kiss+Fly locals and they said it was only good the other night (weds) due to the fact that DJ Reach was spinning. Who knows who to believe these days? I ask people for honest opinions on how parties are doing and I can never trust anyones opinions. I wish I had three more men that I could send to each of the hot spots and get a candid opnion. I am so honest, even when I am shooting myself in the foot. I do Pink Wednesdays and its just slowly dying week by week. I mean, people still come but the presence of promoters there on a Weds is dwindling. Sooo kiss and fly is supposedly hot on wed?!

1Oak wasnt anything special. I did figure something out ..Wednesday nights are usually hip hop music at 1oak. Before I went to 1Oak, I walked by Avenue to see if Wass would be at the door...he was... so I didnt even bother.

So now I have HAMPTONS opportunities for you. My friends have a house in Southampton, they are in house promoters at Pink Elephant. If any of you out there are interested at all in either going to Pink in the Hamptons or staying at their house or both please let me know. Email : Asgoodasitsguests@gmail.com

I'm with Troy

As good as its guests is proud to announce our new contributing writer : Troy TNT Gordon
Troy will be writing about his adventures as a NYC promoter and what it's like working behind the impossible door...
Troy Nathan Kenneth Gordon was originally born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago. He eventually made his way to the USA and transferred into Fordham University in  2006. Like many young men he was a finance major and interned with some investment banks but hated it. He then tried promoting with Mark Bau on Fridays at Club Aer. He ended up doing well and quickly excelled and transferred to climaxvip. After some time there, he left them to partner with Mike Kanevsky and Adam Glovsky. Mike and Troy clicked with one another very well so they soon separated from Glove and now are in the works of starting their own company called "The Selekt Group."
So why does Troy want to write for As good as its guests?
Troy-"I love to write of my nightlife experiences. I love everything from the craziness at the door of nightlcubs, to the drunk bankers slobbering on girls, to the trust fund baby girls on top the couches, to the people in positions of authority whom feel like they are gods but are no better than us all. Come read my stories and please open up a discussion board with your own. I promise you i will keep you entertained.

Ill do my best to keep you all updated on private events taking place in NYC...from the likes of 1Oak, Tenjune, Kiss&Fly, Rendevouz, Greenhouse, Pink Elephant, Mansion, Marquee, Cain, The Box, Eldridge,Gansevoort Hotel, Hudson Terrace, etc. Basically anything anyone tells me about events or celebs I shall share with you. Take it as you will and maybe call into your social newspapers!"

We are glad to have you with us Troy!

Bachelor/ette Auction by WgirlsNYC at M2 Ultra Lounge

What were my feelings on one of the most anticipated events of the Spring charity season? AMAZING!!
Emilie and Jessi Marquez

May 28th, the WGIRLSNYC hosted the Opportunity Rocks” Bachelor/ette Auction to support the Opportunity Network’s valuable programming.
M2 Lounge

Over 500 NYC young professionals gathered to mix and mingle at M2 Ultra Lounge to cheer on the lucky bachelor/ettes, and celebrate the start of summer!

To purchase your hot date, there was a silent auction as well as a live auction. The available bachelor/ettes walked around with blinking pins so they were quick to identify.

If buying a date isn't your thing, the Wgirls also auctioned off weekend stays and gift certificates.
Belvedere and HobNob supplied a fabulous open bar.  I may have had a few black raspberry martini's.
Justin Ross Lee chatted with me before being auctioned off. We tried to guesstimate his worth...he figured somewhere near $25 K. He was a pleasure to speak with as always, and his "interns" were quick to refill our empty glasses.
The crowd was good looking and fun...and ready to spend there money on charity.
JR from MTV's "The City" was auctioned off live. Having met him a few times at Brother Jimmy's it was very funny to watch. My friend Emilie proceeded to purchase him for $450. It's for a good cause though, right?
After the auctions ended, the DJ cranked up the music and started a full on dance party. Girls of all ages danced on the stage and couches. Men in suits ordered bottles of champagne and toasted to a successful evening. Favorite line of the night..."I may not have bought you, but can I buy you dinner." CLASSIC

The Hangover Review.. did that just happen?

This could have been one of the most hilarious films I have ever seen. It was Old School meets Wedding Crashers in the best way. My girlfriends and I were laughing so hard I actually had to run out and go to the bathroom.
While leaving, the one thing that stuck in our head was...How did they get away with that?

"The Hangover, in case you haven’t heard, is a movie rated R “for pervasive language, sexual content including nudity, and some drug material.” All of this was in fine evidence in the film we saw; this movie is definitely a “hard R,” as they like to say. But then the film’s end credits rolled and we saw something that to our naïve eyes looked somewhat harder, and made us wonder whether the ever-vigilant MPAA might have turned their screener copy off before the end credits. As you might expect, SPOILERS abound.

The film ends with the main characters discovering a camera that contains photographs of their disastrous guys’ night out, allowing us to finally see actual photographic evidence of all the crazy shit that we’ve been hearing about them having done for the previous hour and a half. As the end credits roll, we see the photographs. Most of it is the usual raunchy stuff: Strippers, roulette tables, Ed Helms with his mouth covered in blood, etc.

However, there are also several explicit photographs of Zach Galifianakis receiving a full-on bJ from a middle-age woman. Like with close-ups and everything! It’s kinda nasty, actually. We’re pretty sure we didn’t dream this — though, admittedly, we were laughing a bit too hard to be thinking clearly. And we’re pretty sure that’s not the sort of stuff the MPAA looks fondly upon, even when it’s being thrust at them by a big fat movie studio with lots of money."nymag
