Update: Justin Ross Lee Exclusive

As Good As It's Guests bloggers, Jessica Marquez and Cristina DiVuolo met with the one and only Jewface of Facebook, Justin Ross Lee. This meeting was his first ever face to face interview at the Carnegie Club in Midtown East (and we didn't even have to pay the going rate of $2,475.00 an hour for his time).
We asked Justin everything our readers wanted to know, and he didn't hold back any information, no matter how controversial the questions. Fox Philly and the Associated Press got the facts, but we got the dirt and we're dying to tell it.
Whether you love to hate him, or hate to love him, you know you want to know what's really behind that facebook profile and "fuck you" attitude (or else you wouldn't be reading this blog post, right?) Check back with us January 5th for the uncensored, exclusive interview with Mr. JRL as he sets the record straight and find out what life is really like for your internet obsession.

You know you love us, XOXO,

Soundside

From left to right: Dan Reardon, Rich Arcati and Karina McMahon

Hailing from Glen Cove, New York on Long Island, Soundside isn't just your every-day garage band rock & roll star wannabes. Soundside balances that old school rock & roll sound with melodic lyrics that satisfy both the ears of hard rock head bangers and pop rock princesses everywhere. Think Three Doors Down meets Pearl Jam, meets O.A.R, meets Blink 182...well, you get the idea. Front man Rich Arcati's hypnotizing voice and lyrics captivate listeners while Dan Reardon (lead guitar/vocals), Matt Fox (bass) and Karina McMahon (drums) lock up their air tight rhythms and unique sound. From opening gigs at Long Island's The Crazy Donkey to headlining NYC's Crash Mansion, Soundside is really making a mark in the music industry. Their Second Album, Seconds from Sunrise debuted in April 2008 and their first single, "Loss for words", hit the airwaves at college campus' and television networks like Fuse across the country. I caught up with Lead Vocalist Rich Arcati to hear, in his own words, what it's like being on the road to super-stardom.

Above: Soundside Press Release

"Graduating from college as a business major with absolutely no “in” to the music industry just a little over 4 years ago, I still find it interesting how the hell I’m the lead singer of a rock band who’s been on both national TV and radio. As much as I love New York, I have little doubt that this area is the most difficult place in the world to make it as an original rock band, so when you start to finally get a little headway in this industry here, I feel like there’s no better feeling. I can’t tell you how many wonderfully degrading NY moments I’ve been through upon the early years of this band, attempting to give away CDs to people, only to find the same CDs in the garbage or left on the floor or bar just a few moments later. The biggest difference that I find now is that I find random people coming up to me asking me about Soundside and where they can purchase our latest album.

From left to right: Karina McMahon(drums), Rich Arcati (lead vocals, piano), Dan Reardon (lead guitar, vocals)

The biggest thing that pisses me off about new artists today is that everything is so over-produced that a lot of bands can’t perform these great CD productions they have live anymore. We put a lot of “ear candy” in our new productions, but the difference is we can actually re-create the same sound in our live performances.I find it funny when girls come up to me after a show and scream like they’re actually surprised, “Omg, you sound just like the CD!!”. It’s like umm, yeah, that’s what we’re trying to go for.

Recording “Seconds From Sunrise”, with Atari’s producer/member, Angus Cooke, was one of the most memorable experiences we’ve had as a band. We basically locked ourselves in Santa Barbara, CA for a month and did nothing but make music. It sounds easy, but after 12 hours a day of listening to yourselves, you almost don’t even know what you recorded until the next day when you get a fresh listen. The fact that Angus was so down-to-earth made things flow way more smoothly then we could ever imagine. The guy has platinum and gold albums on his studio walls and couldn’t have been more artist-friendly. Whenever we all started getting stir-crazy in the studio, he’d be like, “ok, beach-break”, and we’d take 2 hours. Angus would go surfing while Dan and I watched the girls in bikinis play volleyball. By the time we got back to the studio, we were all pumped. I must say California girls in bikinis provide some great musical inspiration.

Above: Sounside's video shoot for "Loss for Words"

The new Spanish Billingual LP that we just recorded was something completely unreal and unexpected. My mother’s Mexican and religiously watches the Spanish networks on TV. She basically networked her way through her outgoing personality until we found ourselves recording with the “godfather of Latin Music”, Adrian Posse. Now Adrian has sold over 40 million albums that he’s produced, so we were all a little intimidated when we found out he wanted to work with us. He has an amazing and funny aura around him. The first time I met Adrian he kissed me on both cheeks and gave me a hug, so that early-intimidation kind of dissipated really quickly. He loved working with us so much that before the album was done, he contacted major label, EMI Records, and told them to get their asses to the studio immediately, literally. They came the very next day and before we knew it, EMI asked us to write a song for a big compilation album that they were releasing for kids all over the Latin World called “La Música De Los Valores.” We were the only American-born band on the entire album full of tons of famous Latin artists and they released 1 million copies, which gave us some sick exposure among Latinos. There have been tons of Latin artists that have come into the American music scene singing English, so we figured why not American artists singing in Spanish entering the Latin scene? It was a concept that has never truly been done before, especially via an American rock band, and Adrian Posse helped realize this on this new 14-track album we made. It’s a tricky situation to enter a completely new market so behind the scenes everything is being handled really carefully, but the album is going to be released sometime in 2009 and we’re expecting huge things."-Rich Arcati

There has got to be something wrong...

Above: Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer

Thursday evening, I wound up going to bar martignetti's ( www.barmartignetti.com) with Stanley Gale, Tom Travalja, and Jordan Leventhal. It ended up being an amazing night.
Before entering, Tom noticed pictures being taken across the street (and by pictures I mean 1 million paparazzi).
All the fuss happened to be Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer, on what looked like a date.
My only question was, why does everyone break up with Miss Aniston?
Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson, Brad Pitt......to name a few. She seems down to earth and we can all admit shes beautiful. What is it?

It's cold, you're bored..now what?

Current Conditions: New York, NY
24°F (feels like 10°F) Fair & Windy

For those of you who can't stand being home all day, here's 10 things to do in NYC in this frigid weather.

10. Trade in your beer mug for a coffee mug- go on a Cafe crawl. Check out this website for the best coffee in NYC (don't forget your mini bottle's of baileys)
http://www.stumblingepicures.com/coffee/the-best-coffee-in-nyc/
9. Stop procrasting and finish your holiday shopping- if you're finished-put that hard earned money back into the economy and shop for yourself. (You know you're not getting that pony this year)
8. Put on your best southern accent, pretend you're a tourist, visit the tree in Rockefeller Center and take pictures (last year, we pretended we were from Alabama, you'd be surprised how funny this is)
7. Go ice skating in Central Park and Rockefeller Center or if you're not recession proof, there's a free rink in Bryant Park.
6. Cant make it to Colorado? then go to West 22nd Street and grab dinner at Aspen NYC.
http://www.aspen-nyc.com/
5. Frozen Hot Chocolate at Serendipity- Cliche, yes...over-rated? No.
4. Head over to 79 Central Park West and catch a movie, an $8 diet coke and a $10 popcorn at the IMAX Theater.
3. Check out a concert at Sullivan Hall or Terminal 5 for some up and coming music and moderately priced beer. http://www.sullivanhallnyc.com/ & http://www.terminal5nyc.com/
2. Take advantage of the city you live in and see a broadway play or show. Go to http://www.nytix.com/ for some discounted rates.
1. Who are you kidding? It feels like it's 10 degrees out, the 35 mph westerly wind gusts just may blow you into the East River and you aren't moving off the couch. So stay inside, check out http://eats.com/ and get fat. We won't tell...and you're joining the gym January 1st anyway, right? ;)

If you have ideas of your own, send us an e-mail. We'd love to hear from you.

XOXO
Cristina

Nick MacCarron

After catching the premier episode of MTV's Double Shot at Love, As Good As It's Guests blogger, Cristina DiVuolo wanted to know more about the chap-wearing superhero she saw on her t.v. screen. (If you haven't seen the show yet, what are you waiting for?) Cristina had the chance to speak with Double Shot at Love's Nick MacCarron and found out some interesting facts. Not only is this 25 year old Long Island native one of MTV's newest reality stars, he was also chosen from over 13,000 entries for MTV's Ultimate Cover Band competition, The Zoo and has his own band, The Lie.
Cristina: What was it like finding out that you were cast to be on MTV's Double Shot of Love?
Nick: Well, at first I randomly went to a casting call not expecting anything. I was kinda in a weird place mentally at the time. Feeling pretty hurt by my girl situation (or lack of) at the time. So I went to the casting call... it was about a 10 minute interview here in NY. A few weeks later got a call saying they're flying me to LA to do another interview with the producers. I went to that, came back thinking... wow, I did this whole thing on the fly not really expecting much, but now I really really hope I make it! So yeah, it was veryyy exciting getting that final call.
C: I would imagine that living in a house full of people competing for the same girls can be extremely frustrating, how did you deal with the chaos when you needed alone time?
N: Yea, the worst part for me was just not having an iPod, iPhone, or guitar with me. Music is my one and only outlet. So at times I did get very frustrated and emotional in the house, and not having a way to try and get my head in a better place was verrrry difficult for me. So a few times during filming I just looked for a place in the house where I could be completely alone, no cameras and no other castmembers, and just sat there
and wrote.

C: You sing and play guitar for your band called The Lie as well as MTV's ultimate cover band, The Zoo. Which artists are you most influenced by?
N: NIRVANA. When I was like 14 I saw the music video for "Heart Shaped Box" on MTV and just had it in my head that I NEEDED to learn to play guitar. I saved money up for months and months and bought a cheaper version of the same exact guitar that Kurt (Cobain) played. Sat in my room everyday after school learning Nirvana songs. I currently have the word Nirvana (in Chinese) tattooed on my left wrist. It was my first tattoo. Being that I'm a right-handed guitarist, I'm constantly looking at my left wrist while playing guitar. So the tat is just a little reminder and inspiration boost :-)

C: Who are your favorite artists or bands?
N: Jimmy Eat World and Underoath are my two current favorites. Sugarcult, Anberlin and New Found Glory always get me pumped and in a great mood. One Republic, Coldplay and Counting Crows put me to sleep
every night. Nine Inch Nails is the ONE concert I still NEED to see before I die.

C:What is something that people would be shocked to find out about you?
N: I'm a text-a-holic, my favorite movie is Cruel Intentions, and I'm addicted to chocolate covered pretzels.

Be sure to watch Nick on Double Shot at Love on MTV on Tuesday nights at 10.
If your bored at work or just want to know more about Nick (you know you do) check out his myspace page myspace.com/nickmaccarron and his band's myspace.com/thelieonline .

So you want to be a trophy kid....

Well first, I guess you should know what a Trophy Kid is-

trophy kid (trf kd)Part of Speech: nDefinition: Also called "Millennials," they often received trophies and other praise just for participating and not necessarily for excelling. They were rewarded to avoid damaging their self-esteem. As a result, trophy kids feel confident and accomplished, but the coddling has led them to feel entitled and to have great and often unrealistic expectations about their jobs and life in general.

Left: Brandon Yankowitz, Right: Josh Sugarman

If making movies is an "unrealistic job expectation," then Brandon Yankowitz, Josh Sugarman and Duke Greenhill are the poster-boys for "Millennials" every where. Yankowitz and Sugarman both left lucrative careers as attorneys to co-write Trophy Kids, and chase their dreams of filmmaking. Greenhill, a former producer of controversial political ads (remember the Swift Boat ads?) did the same. There's even a reality show in the works about their "irresponsible" departure from stable, lucrative occupations to search for filmmaking fame.

So, what is their maiden project together? A movie about Manhattan Trophy Kids, of course.
And what better way to launch the development of the movie than with a gathering of real-life Millennials at one of Manhattan's most exclusive night-spots?

"We wanted to bring together the people that inspired this film to celebrate the beginning of this journey of ours," says Greenhill, "and to show that we may be 'Trophy Kids,' but that doesn't mean we can't do it.

In attendance will be the filmmakers themselves (Yankowitz, recently designated by Gotham Magazine, one of Manhattan's Most Eligible Bachelors), cast members from Project Runway and America's Next Top Model, and a host of Millennial representatives from the spectrum of the New York social scene, including Entertainment Weekly, GQ, Broadway, and Manhattan's fashion and underground music scene.

Below is one of their films for TRUTH THROUGH ACTION:

Feeling's on change

I wrote this after my graduation from The University of Miami....boy did I have no idea what my life was going to be like in NY.
May 2007
After spending four years in Miami, I'm back in New York....I will miss crazy nights in South beach- Passing lines of over 40 people asking for Joey at the door, VIP access for all of my friends while guzzling free grey goose, going to sleep while the sun was waking, hurricane soaked rain boots, shopping on lincoln road, living in a mall. But now it's back to Long Island....Something about how the harbor looks around 7pm can't be replaced.
I think I thought life would look like this...
But I guess you can't avoid where you're destined to be...

I want Kandi

If you have been living under a rock for the past year, you may have failed to catch her swimsuits featured in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, The New York Post Haute List and CNBC'S The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch. Dani Kates, founder and designer of Kandi Swim, created confection inspired swimsuits that have all the girls and guys screaming " I want KanDi!".

Dani ironically bases her designs on what most girls consider taboo when the thought of bathing suits enters into their minds...dessert. I personally fell in love with her Cupcake bikini last season and can't wait to get my hands on all of her new "treats".

Below: Jessica Marquez relaxes in Hong Kong in her Birthday Cake Bikini
This season's "Kandi Kini's" are cleverly inspired by bakery boxes, lemon meringue pie, linzer tarts, and an assortment of a bakery's most popular cookies that are sure to satisfy your "sweet tooth". Santacon 08 update

Don't Panic!
Your tiny Santa has lain dormant for almost a year, and will temporarily overtake you - but don't panic! They will shrivel at the end of a frantic 15 to 48 hour life cycle, gorging on booze, fornicating, and spreading an overwhelming stench of cheer.
What the fuck?
SantaCon is a not-for-profit, non-political, non-religious & non-logical Santa Claus convention, organized and attended for absolutely no reason.
Time: Convention starts at 10am sharp. If you’re late, you’re on your own.
Location: New York City. Starting point will be posted here on Dec 12th at 10pm.
Spread the stench of Christmassy cheer: And not just with your breath;
Bring a canned food item. This year Santa is giving a little something to the food bank. Santa can drop off their can of Creamed Corn at one of the first stops.
Will there be a text application to find and keep up with everyone along the way? Fuck that bullshit. Santa don't text. BE AT THE 10AM START or call your elvish friends who are. And really, how hard can it be to lose two thousand Santas?
Santa's Rules:
  • Santa looks like Santa. HOLIDAY APPAREL IS MANDATORY. A Santa hat is not enough. Get a Santa suit. Buy a Santa suit. Make a Santa suit. Steal a Santa suit. Get creative: be a Secret Santa, a Santasaurus, Candy-cane, a Reindeer, a Chanukah Chicken, a goddamn latke, Stewardess Santa, Knight Rider Santa, Crusty Peace Punk Santa, the occasional Legless Reindeer, Chanukah Squirrel, Emo-Elf, or the Santichrist.
Just don't wear your fucking jeans.
  • Santa acts like Santa. Be jolly. Belly-laugh. Let people sit on your lap. Give out gifts.
  • Santa doesn't seek media attention. "Ho-ho-ho" is good. "Publicity ho" is lame.
  • Santa doesn't get arrested. Please remember the FOUR FUCKS:
    1. Don't fuck with kids.
    2. Don't fuck with cops.
    3. Don't fuck with security.
    4. Don't fuck with Santa. (it's okay to fuck a Santa)
Santa's Guidelines:
IT'S A LONG DAY, SO BE PREPARED. Here's some tips to keep your sleigh running.
  • Eat something.
Santa is responsible for his own feeding! This is New York City -- if reindeer can figure it out, so can you.
  • Stay hydrated & pace yourself.
Try some water in between your milk and cookies.
  • Bring a MetroCard.
Santa doesn't like waiting while hundreds of drunks attempt to use the machines.
  • Santa is responsible for his own inebriation.
SantaCon is not a bar crawl, it's a convention. There will be bar stops, but they will be crowded. Santa does not advocate breaking open container laws! Santa's just sayin'...
  • Pay your own damn bar tab and tip bartenders well for putting up with Santa.
  • Dress warm.
Wear layers so you'll be comfortable anywhere from the North Pole to the strippers' pole.
  • Stay with the group.
Santa is not texting. Santa is not updating his location. If a Santa drunkenly wanders off or misses the 10am start, he will have to know a friendly Santa to call and help them.
  • Don't be "that" Santa.
Your friends want to have fun, not scrape the puke outta your beard or prevent your wasted ass from wandering into traffic.
  • Santa does not make children cry (unless they whine, snivel, or otherwise deserve it).
Really - If you see kids, give them nice toys, candy, or something pleasant. Feel free to urinate on the parents. Tourists fall somewhere in between the two -- adjust depending on their attitude.

Loomstate for Target

The economy and the environment are two major concerns for Americans after the recent election. People are looking to benefit the environment while saving money during the present day recession. Rogan and Loomstate co-founder Scott Hahn understands the obligation of designers to reinforce both tasks. Hahn has recently released that he will be partnering with Target once again to provide affordable organic clothing to consumers.
With the holiday season around the corner, many are budgeting their finances to find affordable gifts for loved ones. Target has recently been bringing on top name designers to design lines specifically for their store. Designers such as Isaac Mizrahi, Mossimo and Liz Lange are creating designs that are affordable, without compromising taste. Last year, Rogan partnered with Target to provide organic cotton clothing to people that can not afford their original collection, which can be found in stores such as Barney's and Bloomingdales.
A step ahead of the trends, Scott Hahn is always moving forward whether it be in his designs or how his clothes are made. Loomstate and Rogan believe in re-shaping the world and how we all have an effect on our community and environment. Scott Hahn and co-founder Rogan Gregory choose to use strictly organic cotton, grown from small farms that are run by families and are connected to communities. They pride themselves on the fact that their jeans, T-shirts, and other clothes are made by people who are treated well and paid fairly. Hahn believes that every step we take as a community will make this a better environment to live in, "We want the rest of fashion to follow our lead. This matters to us as much as how our jeans make your ass look,"
The environment friendly line is set to launch Spring 2009. The launch is set to coincide with earth day on April 22nd. The collection will include designs for men and women with prices starting at $14.99. The line will feature designs inspired by nature such as leaves on hooded sweatshirts, and tee-shirts that feature quotes such as "make like a tree."

We spent Thanksgiving with Scott Hahn (founder) and were truly inspired by the company and the background behind it. This is the kind of clothing where the wearer is the trend setter, not the media.

Mission & Background-From Loomstate

Launched in New York City in 2004 by designer Rogan Gregory and Scott Hahn, Loomstate was founded as a casual brand dedicated to creating demand for certified organic cotton using socially and environmentally responsible methods of production.

Loomstate's design approach is founded on a respect for our environment's ability to balance, shape and color itself, from windswept dunes to sun bleached stones, combined with an appreciation for nature's mathematically pure "Golden Ratios", evident throughout our environment from nautilus shells to flower petals. Loomstate Men's and Women's collections are inspired by the roots of classic American casual style born of the positivity and activism of youth subcultures over the past 40 years. Updated through modern fits, constructions, uncompromised attention to detail, and rendered in the highest quality and most comfortable 100% certified organic materials. Each piece is created to have lived-in character and comfort, from washed and softened fabrics to tumbled and aged hardware, achieving timeless style rooted in environmental and social sustainability.

Beginning with the design process in its New York studio, Loomstate directly manages all stages of manufacturing, from the fabric mills, to the cut & sew facilities and finally the laundries to ensure all partners are participating in responsible manufacturing processes. Loomstate works with factories representing the "Gold Standard" or model of excellence of responsible production methods. All Loomstate factory partners are required to adhere to a code of conduct and Terms of Engagement in our company manufacturing agreement. These factories must use the highest environmental and labor standards, controlling factory pollution, and enforcing fair labor as the cornerstone of the effort.

Loomstate is fully committed to organic farming, which is a form of agriculture which avoids or largely excludes the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, plant growth regulators, and livestock feed additives. Organic cultivation requires managing and preserving the sensitive ecosystem as opposed to stripping the land of its resources as conventional farming does. Loomstate uses 100% certified organic cotton from various regions of the world such as Turkey, Peru, Africa, India and the USA.

Victoria Secret Show

Last night, I had the pleasure of working on the red carpet at the Victoria's Secret Lexington Avenue flagship store for its grand opening. Selita Ebanks, Marissa Miller, Heidi Klum, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Doutzen Kroes all graced the runway looking absolutely flawless.
They are even more stunning in person.
Osi Umenyora, Ciara, Jeremy Piven, Chanel Iman and dozens of other recognizable faces all entered the party for a wonderful evening sponsored by Cape North Vodka.
If you haven't had the chance to visit the new store on 58th and Lexington you definitely should. Make sure you check out the VS Fashion show at 10pm tonight on CBS.

Twank You

Partying for a Cause
Every summer my boyfriend holds a summer party to bring everyone together and have a good time. This year I came up with the idea to raise money for Memorial Sloan Kettering. Vitamin water helped sponsor the event and it was a great success. Check out the photos below, and if you would like to send a donation or host your own event please email asgoodasitsguests@gmail.com.
