Look out for Rescue Lights

Insider tip for all our hipster readers...

New York City is filled with some of the most talented artists around the globe. Whether walking through the streets circling Union Square, or paying for a high price ticket at Madison Square Garden - Music is the heart beat of New York City.

That being said, it would come as a surprise that I find myself listening to a band coming from....

Tuscon, Arizona.

On December 29th - several of my girl friends and I found ourselves at their show at Pianos.

Pianos has always been known to house some of the best up and coming talent in NYC. Bands such as The Cold War Kids, Clap your hands say yeah, and Passion Pit ... have all called Pianos home.

At Pianos, Thursday night is known for their good looking crowd. Around 11pm, the line typically runs down the entire street.

We arrived around 8pm, just in time to catch Rescue Lights perform. The first song they performed was full of energy and quickly won over the crowd. Lead singer Corey Ferrugia jumped back and forth from piano to guitar, keeping the crowd on their toes.

One girl in the crowd said "Wow, they are really good... they just went from a ballad to rock song just like that. No big deal."

Rescue Lights has influences from bands such as:
One Republic, The Script, Augustana, The Fray, John Mayer, James Morrison, Maroon5, Jason Mraz, Coldplay, and John Legend.
However, their sound remains to be unique and captivating.

During the show, the band announced the release of their new album "One More Try." After the show, the band members came out for a fun night in the city. They shared with us their plans to move to New York in August and teach children music through their business called MyTown Music.

I highly suggest checking out their album and telling me what you think. You can hear parts of the entire album on their website.

I believe that you will enjoy their album so much that I am giving ONE DIGITAL COPY away to one of the readers*. Just tell me which song is your favorite and why.

12 things girls love to do on social media

1. Take pictures in a mirror reflection... in their stellar outfits.... with some hashtag like #GirlsNight

2. Take a picture of someone they deem inferior to themselves in some way with the question: Really?

3. Thank their husband or boyfriend for being the best husband or boyfriend in the world while their husband or boyfriend is sitting right next to them.

4. Complain about bad service. “Ugh, worst massage ever... never going back!”
5. Express their extreme excitement to see their best friends tonight- with a full roll call- and include some stupid girly things.
"Gracie, Dee, Erica, and Sara!!! Love YOU GIRLS!! #Besties #kindredspirits"
6. Take pictures wearing a lot of makeup and looking really girly while simultaneously making a “hard” facial expression and holding up what they consider to be a gangster sign. Potential caption: ‘Ball so hard"

7. Take pictures of undeserving food.

I effing love oatmeal!!! Mmmmmmm.
8. Make their status the song lyrics of any Kings of Leon, Mumford and Sons, Adele, Coldplay, Script, Ray Lamontagne song. Hashtag : "Oneofthosedays"
9. Write angry letters to companies (Dear Starbucks, your coffee is the worst!), unorganized groups of people (Dear girls on the street who think that leggings can be worn as pants..), and non-entities (Dear unseasonably cold weather, why are you so cold?!)

10. Subtly yell at no one in particular while being very specific. “Wow, it’s hard to believe that you think you know someone and then they turn around and STAB YOU IN THE BACK. Will never make that mistake again. EVER.”
11. Document exceedingly mundane activites for the day. “Going to brunch today. Then getting much needed things for the apartment. Then it’s off to the post office to mail some bills. Then stopping by the salon. Will probably need some more food by the end, so I may stop at a restaurant in soho. But I might be tired so I’ll probably just grab something. But if I’m not very tired I’ll probably just go to some happy hour. Again, unless I am tired.”
12. Post the same picture in diptic... to get the point across...that they can make different facial expressions.

Love- A girl that does all these things :)

I am excited for the New Year

Don't get me wrong - 2011 was an amazing year. I'll probably end up doing a recap at some point...
However... I am ready for a new year.

Last month Gracie, Erica and I ended up going to The Griffin. I swear, it was a night of verbally processing. The venue was beautiful, the music was perfect, and the people were FUN!

After several weeks of debating, we finally decided... that was where we wanted to spend our New Years Eve. We decided to really go all out and purchase a VIP table... just to make the night extra special.

Previously working in nightlife with Joonbug - I always worked on New years eve. In high school and college I would do the house party thing, which was always fun but never really met my expectations. Although the tickets were $200... it was well worth it. I am excited to have a special night with my friends. planned and locked in. It includes a 5 hour open bar... so when I break it down, this made the most sense.

Today they posted that you can purchase tickets online. So maybe we will see you there!

What are your plans for New Years Eve??

Cake Batter Martinis

This weekend a few of my friends and I got together and decided to have a girls night...
We danced around the apartment and listened to fun girly music while getting ready. I decided to pick up a bottle of Pinnacle Whipped Cream Vodka to make cocktails.

I've gotta say... this vodka is a dream. It tastes just like whipped cream!

We mixed the vodka with diet orange soda to make "Creamsicle Cocktails". We also mixed it with root beer to make "Root Beer Shooters."

Let's just say... the night was a huge success of dancing, photo shoots, and just being silly.

Gracie, Erica and I at RDV

I decided that moving forward - I want to invent some more yummy cocktails for my friends. Gracie is the best baker ever, Erica is a great chef, and well... you can call me a mixologist, if you will.

So here is my recipe for Cake Batter Martinis (paired with Gracie's Cake Batter Blondies):

makes a single serving, is easily multiplied
1 1/2 ounces Pinnacle whipped cream vodka
1/2 ounce Godiva white chocolate liqueur
1 tbsp of Vanilla Ice Cream
assorted sprinkles (nonpareils work best)frosting

Coat the edge of the martini glass with frosting (You can use your finger). Dip the frosted rim into the sprinkles and put into freezer. Then in a martini shaker - pour in the vodka, liquor, and semi melted vanilla ice cream. Shake...pour...serve.

What is your favorite dessert?

Cake Batter Blondies

There are few things that I crave on a regular basis.

One of my biggest cravings is Cake Batter Blondies.

These are seriously one of the tastiest baked goods I have ever had.

My best friend Gracie created this recipe, and its something that I think NEEDS to be shared!

FreelyBe Movember Man

What is Movember, you ask?
During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in the US and around the world. With their Mo’s, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men. (source)
We’ll be playing our part by acting as Mo Sistas and nominating a handful of men here in NYC who will raise funds and awareness for the Movember Campaign. As the end of the month nears, YOUR VOTES will determine who will be FreelyBe’s Movember Man 2011! We’ll be celebrating and announcing the winner at an upcoming FreelyBe Mo Party, as well as at the official Movember Gala. Details on that to come.
  • Please CLICK HERE if you’d like to make a donation to our Movember team.
  • Guys AND gals are invited to join our Movember team!
  • To learn more about the programs funded by Movember, please visit the movember website: http://us.movember.com/about.
  • We’ll be announcing our 5 nominees very soon, so be on the lookout!
As more people become Citizens of Movember, more lives will be impacted. So we encourage you to either grow a moustache as a Mo Bro, or join as a Mo Sista to show your support and help recruit other Mo growers to the team. We hope you join us to change the face of men’s health!
